Kindle Fire owns 22% of USA tablet sales

Amazon’s Kindle Fire owns 22 % of the USA tablet market, the online retail giant declared Thursday. The calculate comes as Amazon preps to probably declare a brand new tablet next week, besides girding to take-on Google’s $199 Nexus 7 device.
As mentioned by Amazon, “in just nine months, Kindle Fire has grabbed 22 % of product sales in the USA,” PaidContent reports.
Amazon would choose its 22 % sales calculate be evaluated against U.S. sales, which usually places it in 3rd place after Apple with 55 % and Android with 35 %, as reported by Fortune. But how about internationally? Such as the wizard from “The Wizard of Oz,” who implores Dorothy not to look behind the curtain, Amazon would like it if you didn’t ask such pesky questions.
All of these means that Amazon next week not just needs to deliver a tablet that stay in the exact same ball park as the iPad feature-wise, but also needs to stay low-priced enough in order to avoid Google’s $199 tablet from snuffing out the Fire.

VLC for Android beta officially launches, now available to download on Google Play

After years in development, the VideoLAN team have finally launched their popular VLC video player on Android, meaning that if you own one of the newer ARMv7-powered Android devices, you will be able to download the first beta of the app from Google Play today.
Initially targeted at “power users and hackers”, the beta is not a stable release and is said to be slower than the final public version. It will also support devices that are powered by an ARMv7 processor with NEON support. Supported devices include the Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III, Motorola Defy, HTC Desire and the Nexus One.
VLC is seen as the Swiss Army knife of video players, playing back nearly any type of video or audio file that you can throw at it. Enjoying a huge desktop following, it briefly launched on iOS devices  but Android users have been waiting for quite a while for it to become available on their devices.
If you are able to install the VLC beta, you will be able to play most local video and audio files (either locally or network streams) and utilise the app’s multi-track audio and subtitle support. The app also supports auto-rotation, aspect-ration adjustments and volume control gestures.
Widgets, audio headset control, cover art and audio media libraries are also included in the app.
VideoLAN says that the basic UI is set to change, performance improvements are yet to be added and some audio issues are present. This means that if you want a stable and reliable app, it would be best to give this a miss until it’s ready for public release.

Samsung Sues LG Display In South Korea

Samsung and LG are not exactly bosom buddies, although I am quite sure that they do not hate each other as much as Apple and Samsung. Having said that, we hear that Samsung Electronics has decidedly brought LG Display to court in South Korea over a lawsuit, where the former is seeking invalidation of OLED patents that are held by LG Display. According to Samsung, there are seven patents granted to LG Display that should be considered as invalid since they “lack innovation.” Well, at least this has nothing to do with LG Display’s products being not “as cool as” Samsung’s, no?
This is not the first legal tiff that Samsung and LG Display have been involved in to date, since they did lock horns in the courtroom before when Samsung alleged that LG actually leaked the OLED technology, while LG Display sued Samsung over the use of OLED panels in Samsung devices. Hopefully everything turns out all right in the long run, no?

LG releases “Make phones, not war” ad

We’re sure that most of you guys are aware of the ongoing lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, a situation in which most people have referred to as the patent wars. Now it seems that LG has recently released an ad in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times in which it states (as seen above) that LG “makes phones, not war”. The ad then goes on to state how LG has collaborated with a variety of companies in the past, such as Qualcomm just to name a few. We’re not sure if their “Make phones, not war” slogan was simply stated as a general phrase, or perhaps it could be targeted at the Samsung and Apple situation.
After all HTC and Apple have managed to reach an agreement, and with that some expected Samsung to follow suit although the company did state that they do not have plans to settle, indicating that this patent war could be continuing. Then there is the alternative which is how Samsung is suing LG over its displays, and there is a chance that the ad could be referring to that as well. Either way we won’t speculate too much, but what do you guys think?
